Internship Program

Thank you for your interest in the WAY-FM Internship Program! Interested in finding out what happens on the other side of the radio? The WAY-FM Internship Program is great for college students interested in learning the behind-the-scenes workings as well as gaining valuable hands-on training at a large-market Christian radio station. WAY-FM internships are non-compensated, but offer college credit. In order to apply, you must be doing it for college credit. The hours and days for each position vary depending on the projects assigned.

WAY-FM offers the following internships

Production Internship
As a Production Intern, you will assist the Production Director in all aspects of production such as producing Impact Partner announcements, concert promos, etc., and when necessary, sharing the work with affiliates and other WAY-FM owned and operated stations. You will get a chance to observe air talent on the air and at various station events. To apply, you need to be currently studying Broadcasting, Radio & Television, Commercial Music, or some other related field. Experience working with digital editing software is helpful. Basic computer skills are a must. This internship requires a minimum 20-hour-a-week commitment.

Total Axxess Programming Internship
As a Total Axxess Programming Intern, you will assist the Nighttime Host. This is an opportunity to assist in all aspects of the production and running of WAY-FM’s nationally broadcasted nighttime program, Total Axxess. This is an entry level internship, so no experience is necessary; we'll train you! However, a great attitude and an outgoing personality are required to establish relationships with the artist/music industry. You bring the outgoing personality; we'll teach you the rest! This internship requires a minimum 20-hour-a-week commitment.

Promotions Internship
As a Promotions Intern, you will be assisting the Promotions Director by helping to coordinate WAY-FM events, concerts, and promotions, distributing WAY-FM event materials throughout middle Tennessee to churches, bookstores, schools, and businesses, and helping with other miscellaneous assignments as needed. A good attitude, honesty, trustworthiness, dependability, flexibility, and willingness to follow directions are required, however, experience isn't. We will train you! This internship requires a minimum 15-hour-a-week commitment and some travel for events and material distribution. A flexible schedule is a must since afternoons will be needed as well as some evenings and weekends.

Morning Show Programming Internship
Attention Broadcast/Journalism majors! If you’re looking for an internship in the world of radio and want to work with a station and morning show team that are considered leaders within the industry, then look no further than WAY-FM. If your friends crawl out of bed well after you’re full of energy and ready to face the day, then we might be looking for you. Like the creative outlet your production skills provide? Want to network with the Christian Music Industry? Check into an internship with WAY-FM’s morning show! This internship requires availability during morning hours. Digital production and automation experience is a must.

Engineering Internship
The Engineering Intern assists the Southeastern Regional Corporate Engineer in the Engineering Department doing daily office-related tasks including wiring and equipment documentation organizing, filing logs, and helping with other miscellaneous office projects as well as assisting in tool and parts organization. Some light computer support on both software, hardware, and networking fields will be required as well.

Non-Profit Development and Administration Internship
The Non-Profit Development and Administration Internship is designed to help the student gain experience in and understanding of the underwriting and sales role through participating in sales calls, business relationship building, business underwriting, scheduling, and various VIP and concert events. The intern will work on the underwriting and sales side of the ministry/radio station while still learning how the position relates to and works with the Programming, Production, and Promotions departments.

Requirements:

  1. Must be a student at an accredited college or university or part of an accreditation program.
  2. Must receive academic credit for participation (internships are non-paid) or be part of an accreditation program.
  3. Must fill out a WAY-FM Internship Application Form, and then email it to .

Application Deadlines:
Applications are continually accepted throughout the year. Internship start and end dates are flexible. However, the following information can serve as a general guideline for submitting your information:

  • Spring internships: November 30th.
    Selection of spring interns will be made by the middle of December. The spring internships start on the second full week of January and go through April 30th.
  • Summer internships: April 30th.
    Selection of summer interns will be made by the middle of May. The summer internships start on the second full week of June and go through July 31st.
  • Fall internships: September 10th.
    Selection of fall interns will be made by the middle of September. The fall internships start on the second or third full week of September and go through the second week of December.
